Welcome to the Mountain View High School Drivers Education Program.  We are excited to help you navigate the entire process of obtaining a drivers license. 

NOTE: Alpine School District increased the drivers ed fee to $160 beginning July 1, 2022. This fee covers the class, range and road. The cost to complete the class online or in-person is included in this fee. 

Steps to getting your Drivers License:
  • Obtain a Learners Permit
    • ​​​​To obtain a Learners Permit you must be at least 15 years old and pass a 50 question test​ at the DLD.

    • Fee $19
  • Drive a minimum of 40 hours (10 hours at night)
    • ​You may begin accruing these hours as soon as you have your learners permit
    • You DO NOT need to complete all 40 hours before finishing the other steps (Class, Range, Road)
  • Pass a Drivers Ed Class
    • MVHS offers 2 Options:
                                 IN-PERSON
                                           *This class is taught during the school day by Mr. Hymas. There is no fee for this class ​
                                 ONLINE
                                           * This class is taught by Mr Reynolds. He offers the course most months and it is 5 weeks long.                                                   ​
  • Complete Driving Range
    • ​For information and to sign up for Range, CLICK HERE
  • Compete Road Driving
    • ​After you complete Range, your Road Instructor will schedule 4 sessions of Road (2 hours Each)
    • Most Road driving is done at 5:15 am but some instructors may drive after school or on Saturdays
  • Driving Test
    • ​After completing Road Driving you will need to take your Driving Skills Exam.  The Driving Skills Exam will be completed at either the DLD or with a MVHS instructor.  Click HERE to schedule an appointment.
  • Other Items
    • ​Be at least 16 years old
    • Have your Learners Permit for a minimum of 6 months
    • Complete the Safety Trends Exam
